Dear MMS Parents/Guardians – May 5th, 2017
Over the next several weeks, you and your child will be making choices regarding Arts Options at Mitchell Middle School for the 2017-2018 School Year.
More details about each specific choice will be introduced to students at school in the next week, but to help you start the conversation at home we are offering MMS students the following overview of options by grade. Beginning next week, we will send home Course Choice Forms for students and their parents/guardians to indicate their choice of Arts Option for the 2017-18 School year. A parent signature will be required.
Grade 5
All students will have 2 periods of Choir and 3 periods of Music per 6 day cycle. Other arts experiences (Visual Art and Drama) will occur within the ELA curriculum.
Grade 6
Choir (twice per cycle, in the timetable)
OR
Arts Experience (Visual Art & Drama) (twice per cycle, in the timetable)
In addition, all grade 6 students will get 3 periods of music class per cycle (recorder, ORFF, Drumming, Digital Music, etc.) in their regular schedule.
Grade 7
Band (5 times per cycle, full year)
OR
Drama/Visual Art (5 times per cycle, Drama for ½ year, Visual Art for ½ year)
Optional: Choir (2 noon hours per week, full year)
Grade 8
Band (5 times per cycle, full year)
OR
Drama (5 times per cycle, full year)
OR
Visual Art (5 times per cycle, full year) Optional: Choir (2 noon hours per week, full year)
*Students who are currently in Band, Drama or Visual Art who are wishing to switch to a different elective for the next school year must get signed permission from the outgoing teacher, the intake teacher, as well as a parent/guardian.
