June 6, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians.

Our grade 5s are all set to explore Birds Hill Park on Friday, June 7, 2019. The weather forecast is calling for hot weather with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees celsius. MMS staff will be vigilant about everyone hydrating often and taking shade breaks as necessary. Staff will make sure that events will be modified to ensure they are not too strenuous for students, staff or volunteers.

All students, staff and volunteers are encouraged to:
-wear a wide-brimmed hat,
-wear lightweight, protective clothing (e.g., long-sleeved shirts and pants),
-apply a liberal amount of an effective sunscreen (at least SPF 15) to all exposed skin; e.g.,the face, neck, tips of ears and tip and bridge of nose,
-apply lip protection to guard against sunburn, fever blisters and cold sores,
-be extra cautious if taking antibiotics or other medications that increase sun sensitivity,
-bring a filled water bottle

The meeting space at Birds Hill Park does have a shaded area and access to water fountains.
MMS staff will also bring a large water jug to ensure all students have access to water throughout the day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

Sincerely,

Grade 5 Teachers
Mitchell Middle School
