Dear Mitchell Middle School Family,

What a crazy and unpredictable year this has been for all of us! And the changes only keep coming it seems. I hope you join me in wishing Mr. Andrew Mead all the best in his role with the Manitoba Remote Learning Support Centre!

I wanted to take a brief moment to introduce myself to you before the Christmas break. I am originally from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, where I studied at University of the Fraser Valley and Simon Fraser University in completion of degrees in Kinesiology and Education; as you can probably guess, I love the Vancouver Canucks, and have never quite gotten used to Manitoba winters! I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Educational Administration through Brandon University.

My wife Colleen and I reside in Steinbach where we have lived for the last 11 years, following a 2 year stopover in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. We have a 12 year old son and 7 year old daughter, both of whom attend school in Steinbach. I have worked with Middle Years students throughout my career, in the classroom and the gymnasium, and most recently as Vice Principal at Stonybrook Middle School, a position I have held for the last 3.5 years. Middle Years students are awesome, and I love working with them! The Middle Years are a formative period in each person’s life, and it is a privilege to be a part of that journey as they move through adolescence, and develop the skills, attributes, dispositions, and values to pursue their interests and dreams in high school and beyond.

Though the Christmas Break will look different this year than it has in the past, I nevertheless wish the entire MMS family a restful and fulfilling holiday. MMS has an awesome team of dedicated professionals; Mrs Kwiatkowski and I look forward to working with them, and with you, as we continue to support your child in this most unusual school year.

Yours education,

A.J. Neufeld
