Dear MMS families,

Please click on this link to access this week’s Warrior Weekly Newsletter.

Parents of students of Grade 7 and 8 students who wish to play basketball this year, please review the information below.

As you are hopefully aware, beginning Monday, December 6, 2021 Manitoba Public Health will require all youth aged 12 – 17 years who attend or participate in an indoor sporting event (including schools) to provide proof that they have received at least one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine for COVID-19.  This information was communicated by Hanover School Division on November 19.

If your child has not had at least one vaccine dose as identified above, or wishes not to disclose their vaccination status, your child must provide proof of a pharmacist-confirmed negative result from an approved rapid antigen test, from a test taken within the 72 hours before they participate.  This will be true for both practices and league games.

As well, the Public Health Order requires that all participants, coaches, volunteers, and spectators aged 18 and older (whether teachers, parents, or members of the public) must provide proof of full vaccination or medical exemption approved by Manitoba Health and Seniors Care. Rapid antigen testing for this age group is not an option.

Click here to view the details of the order.

Please be reminded that proof of vaccination can be uploaded using the Parent Portal, or by bringing the appropriate documentation to the school office for review.

MMS Families, please take note of the following important pieces of information related to athletics at Mitchell Middle School moving forward:

  • Sign ups will be posted for interested basketball players beginning on Monday, December 6.
  • Practices will begin once coaches have been found for each of our Grade Seven and Eight Boys and Girls Teams.
  • Vaccination status will be confirmed in advance for all interested participants
  • As required by the public health order, all MMS coaches and game officials will be fully vaccinated
  • A decision about whether spectators will be permitted to watch Middle Years basketball games in person will be made by Hanover School Division in January.
  • Information for athletes who opt to undergo regular testing
    • Proof of a negative test result must be provided to the school office by 3:00 pm
      • This will allow students time to make transportation arrangements to get home at the end of the day if necessary
      • On game nights, this will also allow the school to properly complete required paperwork, including accurate rosters, which must be submitted before league games

Please be in contact with Mr. Neufeld (aneufeld@hsd.ca) or Mrs. Kwiatkowski (skwiatkowski@hsd.ca) should you have any questions about this information.

Yours in education,
